My Mom's Eyes
Mom’s eyes danced through Life. They truly saw what needed to be seen during her journey, both here on earth and when she was performing aerobatics amongst the clouds.
Unbeknown to me at the time of being creative with mandalas, I realised when writing this post, what my chosen colours meant to me. A beautiful portrayal of Mom’s eyes.
What more meaningful way to celebrate the value of my mom’s life than to remember her brilliant blue eyes. Eyes which held an inner light. Eyes brimming with love, adoration and respect for her loved ones. Eyes filled with vitality, curiosity and mischief, as well as with the finer details and complexities of Life.
Those gentle blue eyes reflected a zest for life. A sense of fiery determination. They were always looking ahead. Further beyond that which was needed or expected. Displaying her vibrant blue gaze. Always without fear. Always alert. Twinkling. Seeking the answers. Finding solutions. And more exciting ways of doing things. Whether in joy or in moments of reflection, Mom looked at everything and everyone with absolute intensity. No half measures ever. She would constantly remind us.
Mom’s eyes saw right through people. Through the veils of deceit. Through jealousy and insincerity. She didn’t suffer fools lightly. Her eyes read the concealed emotions. The fear and the warmth too. Glowing with an unmistakable aliveness, her own emotions were brought to life through those blue eyes. At times, they would be fiercely engaged in conversations of a serious nature, usually when politics or religion were being discussed. Then suddenly soften, immersed in gentleness, when kindness and love were shown to her.
Mom’s eyes witnessed and acknowledged acts of humanity. Those eyes melted into pools of tears with ease when seeing compassion, warmth and vulnerability. She would wipe them discreetly, saying, Just a bit of dust in my eye.
Life’s small pleasures created an extra brilliant sparkle in Mom’s eyes, which then danced together with her beautiful smile. She loved nothing more than being with Ingrid, Karen, Debbie, Chantal, Tarryn and Abby. When good food and freshly baked chocolate cake was added to the mix, her eyes shimmered with delight.
Forever in our hearts Mom.

I have such fond memories of your mother. Be blessed.
