Shadows
The world was held captive in an ugly web of fear, uncertainty and mistrust. Forced separation shattered lives. Time passed at a painfully slow pace. The endless hours of the pandemic often brought with them grief and anxiety. They also brought us the gift of time. How we used that was our individual choice.
I got creative. Reflecting on life past.
They knowingly come when they are needed
Nobody is spared
Their dark cloaks overpowering
Uninvited they encroach
Their purpose to offer
Awareness and support
Through reflection and tears
The road once traveled
Seeping into every cell
Penetrating the bones
Piercing the calmness
Engulfing the core of my being
Shadows of loneliness
Solitude at its darkest
Isolation
Alone with Self
Shadows of bewilderment
Anchors unlocked
State of turmoil
Without direction
Shadows of fear
The unknown awaits
Overbearing loads
Despair and angst
Shadows of doubt
Decisions in limbo
Prancing between destiny and free will
Searching for the guiding hands of the Universe
Shadows disappearing to return unexpectedly
To inflict relentless anguish
The icy cold sense of defeat
Enveloping my soul
I grasp at the need for balance
The need to adapt
The need for deeper understanding
To be serene
I acknowledge the shadows
No matter how painful
For the truth must be seen
And the path be cleared
I appreciate the shadows
For they bring forth
Lessons to be learnt
Challenges to be faced
And above all the gift of courage
I remind myself
This is good
I may feel this way
It does not mean I am weak
The tears
The raw emotions and broken heart
Part of the process
Essential for the return of laughter
Forever thankful for the awareness of the shadows
For recognising their arrival
Their purpose
For they are here to clarify
With inner strength and spirit strong
Together we walk on
Learning from the past
Embracing the future
Although daunting
My energies waning
I am equipped with the power to banish
To replace with hope and unwavering sense of faith
The shadows of yesterday
Dedicated to my precious Kerry A
Beautifully composed Ingrid.
