Silent Killer

There was no grasping of just how deadly the air pollution in Beijing was. I found myself at times, filled with both anger and disbelief at the severity of the situation. Only to find solace in putting thoughts on paper.

You darken our skies

Throwing treacherous waves of toxic particles upon us

Engulfing all 

Blanketing 

You steal our air

Leaving no escape

Only attempts to modify the threat

Infiltrating

You appear randomly

Never shy or hesitant to exhibit your power

Without shame or preferences

Intimidating

You are notorious

Little children recognise you

Adults discuss you

Governments both fear and battle you

You - the producer of money

Masks abound

Variety of styles and colours 

Purifiers of great force working overtime

 

You are deadly

Accountable for suffering

For death and destruction

The toxic grey monster

You - the silent killer

Your presence a constant peril of progress

At times all consuming

Denying that which is sacred
