The Fledglings
Whilst in China, I wrote this poem for the many young children whom I had the privilege of teaching. My wish for them is that they learn how to laugh and how to play …
Heavy eyelids
Body tired
Fingers cramped
Little one I see you
Desperation
Exhaustion mounting
Sadness deepening
The calm no longer
Your plight, your challenges, your endeavours
Who do they belong to?
For you are too young to know such aspirations
Your pressure, your stress, your misery
Who is driving you?
For what purpose do they steal your childhood?
My heart aches little one
Your loss is great
For where is your creativity, your imagination, your play?
Your Spirit trapped deep within
Your sense of adventure crushed
The fool in you cannot be
Hold on tight
Never loose sight of who you are
Dream those dreams
For they are yours and forever will be
Your day will come little one
To cherish the value of freedom
To create your own destiny
Paint your dreams and make them reality
Until then …

ReplyDeleteThe importance of laughter is grossly under-estimated. Laugh and you will feel so much better. You have great insight. Yvonne van den Dool
