Travels Beyond

My mother walked into the headmaster’s office at our high school in Pietersburg, South Africa. She asked permission to take her two daughters out of school for a period of six weeks. He refused permission. Mom’s response was powerful. “School interferes with education,” she exclaimed.

That six-week journey of a lifetime opened my eyes to the immeasurable value of travel. I have not stopped. I continue to seek. I continue to learn. I continue to develop insight, tolerance, understanding. I am rich forever.

Thank you Mom.

  1. That hitch-hiking trip was so informative and also lots of fun. We met many people of different nationalities and learned a lot about how the rest of the world lives. People everywhere are just ordinary human beings like us. My two daughters and I learnt so much for which I shall always be grateful.
