The Dance of Nia

Standing firm in silence

In respect for that which is art

For that which is health, wellness, wisdom

Her stance powerful, graceful and quiet

Waiting, connecting

Awareness of energies beyond

Acknowledgement of higher forces

Respect, serenity, stillness

Anticipation

Silence gently broken

Arms awakening

Circular halos

Feet turning, tapping

Inwards, outwards

Establishing base

Shoulders rolling

Hips swaying, mobility

Celebrated spine

Muscles warming

Stretching, pulling

Tight, extending

Emotions free

Gentleness, flowing, moving

Body tall and elegant in graceful delight

Voices of sensation

Listening, hearing

From deep within

Moving to heal, to explore, to be

Rejuvenate, relax

Consolidate and evaluate

Awakening of bodies

Emotional, physical, mental

Spiritual

Pace quickens, rhythm pulsating

Breathing deep, controlled

Sumo stance

Faster now

Flames within ignited

The beat is heard

Hearts pumping

Bodies wet, glistening, following

Guided in unity of strength

Cells energizing

Releasing old pains, re-aligning

Unleashing new life, new joy

Emotions unlocking

Exploring deeper, innermost you

Crying, laughing, rejoicing, celebrating

Stronger, electric, Earthsong vibrating

Creation of forces unseen

Physical sensations unharnessed

Tribal explodes, enveloping all

Core hard and steadfast

Vigorous crescendo

Warriors of light

Slowing down, calming, soothing

Breathing, pacing

Five stages vital

Embryonic, crawling, creeping

Standing and walking

Stillness once more

Nurturing of mind, body and soul

In silent sweet meditation

Gratitude

The joy of movement

The essence of life

This poem was written to celebrate a journey back to wellness. As the verses reach a crescendo, so too did Debbie’s success as one of the most wonderful Nia Instructors in the world (I am not biased of course …).

May your Nia journey continue to soar to great heights Debs. May it be filled with love, care and wisdom. May you bring to us, the fact that one can dance anywhere, anytime and in your own way.
